"Economic power is exercised by means of a positive, by offering men a reward, an incentive, a payment, a value; political power is exercised by means of a negative, by the threat of punishment, injury, imprisonment, destruction. The businessman's tool is values; the bureaucrat's tool is fear." - Ayn Rand

Who is John Galt? Screenwriter Duncan Scott Recalls Working with Ayn Rand on We The Living

Long before Atlas Shrugged, in 1936, Ayn Rand published We The Living, her first novel and her first significant statement against communism.
To celebrate our crossing the $300,000 threshold, we've put together a quick video with Atlas Shrugged Screenwriter Duncan Scott recently recalling working with Ayn Rand on the re-edit of We the Living back in the 80s.
Without Rand's knowledge, We the Living, was made into a two-part film by Italian filmmakers in 1942. Shortly after release, authorities banned the film because of its anti-fascist themes.
Rediscovered in the 1960s by Rand's lawyers, Erika and Henry Mark Holzer, the films were re-edited by Duncan Scott, under the supervision of Ayn Rand.
Rand often reflected that We the Living was as close to an autobiography as she would ever write.
